Family Home Goes Off-Peak with Solar, Battery Storage and an EV Charger

A full renewable package — solar panels, battery storage and a smart EV charger — helping one family run their home and car on their own clean energy.

The challenge

A family of four with two electric vehicles wanted to reduce their reliance on the grid and take control of their rising energy bills. Their goal was to generate, store and use as much of their own electricity as possible, rather than exporting it for a small return.

Our approach

We designed an integrated system combining roof-mounted solar panels, a home battery, and a smart EV charger capable of prioritising surplus solar. The components were specified to work together, so excess daytime generation charges the battery and the vehicles rather than going to waste.

The results

The household now covers the majority of its daily electricity needs from solar and stored energy, charging both cars largely on self-generated power. Their grid imports dropped sharply, and the smart charger automatically tops up the vehicles during the cheapest and greenest periods.
